Waiting on God.  4.27.2025 The meeting of Grace Christian Church. We meet in person and stream services every Sunday at 10:30 AM EST in Manalapan, New Jersey.

The massage explores the Christian virtue of patiently waiting on God, contrasting it with the human tendency toward instant gratification. It emphasizes that believers, transformed from being "In Adam" to "In Christ" through faith (2 Cor 5:17, 1 Cor 15:22), must learn to depend on God as their source for all needs, rather than acting impulsively. Waiting is presented as a spiritual discipline, exemplified by the fruit of patience (Gal 5:22-23) and taught by the Holy Spirit.
Key points:
  1. Transformation and Dependence: Upon believing the Gospel, Christians become new creations indwelt by the Holy Spirit, unlike Old Covenant saints like David, who were not permanently indwelt (1 Thes 5:23, 1 Cor 6:17, Psalm 51:1). This indwelling enables believers to wait dependently on God.
  2. Learning from David: The Psalms, written by David, frequently highlight waiting on God for revelation, deliverance, guidance, and strength (e.g., Isaiah 40:31). David’s example teaches believers to trust God’s timing and ways.
  3. Three Areas of Waiting:
    • Revelation: Believers should seek God’s guidance to know, do, and see His will, as David did (Psalm 25:4-5). Waiting for divine insight prevents acting in the flesh.
    • Deliverance: Waiting silently on God for salvation (deliverance) from difficulties, as David did (Psalm 62:1,5), aligns with God’s promise to work all things for good (Romans 8:28).
    • Spiritual Work: Christians should wait for God-initiated works rather than self-driven efforts (Psalm 52:8-9, Ephesians 2:10). Works from God bear spiritual fruit, while self-initiated works are fruitless.
  4. Practical Application: The text encourages believers to pray for revelation, wait patiently, and avoid fleshly actions. It warns against the evil one’s deception, which can lead to good but self-initiated works (Watchman Nee’s insight).
  5. Personal Testimony: The author shares an experience of waiting a year for God to provide a new job, illustrating how patient dependence led to a better outcome aligned with God’s plan.
The message concludes by urging believers to seek God’s revelation for their specific roles in His prepared works and to avoid self-effort, emphasizing dependence on God for a victorious Christian life.
