The meeting of Grace Christian Church. We meet in person and stream services every Sunday at 10:30 AM EST in Manalapan, New Jersey.
- Ministry = Serving others from Christ in us (Col 1:27) in both spiritual and practical ways.
- All fruitful ministry flows from Christ (we are joined to Him – Rom 7:4); fleshly efforts produce no lasting fruit (John 6:63).
- Chuck Smith quote: “Where God guides, He provides.” Lack of provision indicates it’s not from God.
2. Two Important Spheres of Ministry
- To the Body (saved believers / Church) → builds maturity.
- To those outside the Body (unsaved) → evangelism.
- Imbalance causes problems: All outward → immaturity inside; all inward → no evangelism.
Focus of this message: Ministry from the Body to the Body (Body Life).3. Biblical Picture of the Church
- Romans 12:4-8 → One body with many members, each having different gifts (prophecy, serving, teaching, exhorting, giving, leading, mercy).
- 1 Corinthians 12 → The local and universal Church functions like a human body; every part is needed.
- When gifts operate freely in gatherings, the Holy Spirit moves powerfully (example: spontaneous sharing on “redemption”).
4. Problems in the Modern Church
- Traditional services often = “hear a sermon and leave” → passive, quenches the Spirit (1 Thess 5:19).
- Over-reliance on small groups (women’s, men’s, seniors, interests, etc.) segments the Body instead of uniting it.
- Result: Spiritual weakness, immaturity, fracture, and powerlessness.
- Illustration: Women’s group members stopped participating with the whole Body, treated their group as “their church,” and eventually left when the leader moved.
Warning: Groups are fine as supplements, but never a substitute for the whole Body gathering.5. Three Key Body Life Ministries (when the Church gathers)
- Encouragement
- Hebrews 10:25 → Do not forsake assembling; encourage one another especially as the day draws near.
- Acts 11:23 → Barnabas encouraged believers to remain true to the Lord.
- Many lonely/depressed Christians miss this by not gathering.
- Edification (Building Up)
- 1 Cor 14:26-27 → When you assemble, each one has something (psalm, teaching, revelation, tongue, interpretation) → all for edification.
- 1 Cor 14:12 → Be zealous for gifts that build up the church.
- Ephesians 4:16 → Every joint supplies → growth and building up in love.
- Equipping
- Ephesians 4:12 → Leaders equip saints for service so the Body grows to strength and maturity.
- Key focus: Teaching identity in Christ (who we are because of the Cross).
- All members can equip others through sharing these truths.
6. Recommended Model
- 1st Century House Church style: Open participation, listening to the Spirit, everyone contributes.
- Allows true Body Life — encouragement, edification, and equipping flow naturally from member to member.
- Modern structured services often restrict this.
7. Overall Conclusion
- Christ desires the whole Body to gather as one so that ministry flows from the Body to the Body.
- This produces spiritual growth, maturity, love, and power.
- Question for reflection: Have you experienced Body Life in a participatory gathering? How has meeting like the early Church helped you grow?
Core Takeaway: The Church flourishes when every member participates under the Holy Spirit’s leading — not as passive listeners, but as active ministers to one another through Encouragement, Edification, and Equipping.
