This 11th message of the “What’s New?” series, the focus is on how believers are called to love one another unconditionally—a concept grounded in Jesus’ new commandment from John 13:34. This command to love as Jesus loves is central to the Christian life, with 22 verses in the New Testament emphasizing it.
The message outlines two paths believers might take in attempting to love unconditionally:
1.Trying to love from one’s own strength, which tends to be limited and conditional.
2.Allowing God’s love to flow through oneself, making love a divine, unending river that springs from God’s nature within us (John 7:38).
The Apostle Paul in Romans 5:5 affirms that God has poured His love into believers’ hearts, providing a divine source for loving others in an unconditional way. Additionally, 2 Peter 1:4 highlights that believers partake in God’s divine nature, meaning God’s own unconditional love (Agape) resides in them.
However, there’s a question: Does God’s love merely reside in us, or does it flow through us? The Apostle John explains that love is perfected in believers when they genuinely express it to one another (1 John 4:12–13). This perfected love confirms God’s abiding presence, transforming human love into a reflection of God’s own divine love.
In essence, unconditional love among believers is not just a command but a natural outflow of divine love that believers receive and pass on, embodying a community filled with God’s presence.
